PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a short-circuit between an electrode film and an electrode lead film and a magnetic shielding film in a magnetic head. SOLUTION: In a recording and reproducing separate type thin film head provided with a lower magnetic shielding film 4, a filler 41 with which steps of the film 4 are filled, a lower magnetic gap film 7 formed on the film, a MR element 1 formed at a position facing to a recording medium facing surface on the gap film 7, the electrode film 2 joined to the element 1 on the other side of the recording medium facing surface, the electrode lead film 3 coming into contact with part of the electrode film 2 and formed so as to extend in the other side direction of the medium facing surface, an upper magnetic gap film 6 covering the MR element 1/the electrode film 2/the electrode lead film 3, and an upper magnetic shielding film 5 formed on the gap film 6, the thickness of a part which does not come in contact with the upper gap film 6 of the electrode film 2 is specified to be smaller than the thickness of a part which comes in contact with the upper gap film 6 of the electrode film 2. |
