PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting current limiting device for resetting to a superconducting state within a reclosing time without deteriorating by a current limiting energy generated when a current is limited. SOLUTION: The superconducting current limiting device comprises a plurality of superconducting windings wound with superconducting lead wires each having a redetermined length as a current limiter. In this case, the length of the superconducting lead wire is a longer one of a length for generating a necessary resistance value for limiting a fault current of a system for inserting the device, and a length to be decided from a wire material amount needed for setting a temperature rise of the lead wire to a deteriorating temperature or lower of the limiter by an energy to be consumed by the limiter when the current is limited.
