PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector for a vehicle, ensuring position detection of the vehicle in the advancing and backing directions, without causing malfunctions, and to provide a switching device used for the same. SOLUTION: When a switch operator 56 is engaged with a roller with the running of the vehicle 84 to cause an operation lever 33 to be turned, a pushing portion 38 of the operation lever 33 pushes one of a plurality of pins 43 to the peripheral direction to cause a rotor 39 to be turned by a preset angle. With the turning of the rotor 39, a plurality of cam members 61-67 are turned by a preset angle and at least one of large-diameter portions 61a-67a of the cam members is engaged with respectively corresponding microswitches SW1-SW7 to be operated for detecting the position of the vehicle 84, with respect to a stationary object 86.
