DETECTION OF POSITION OF SWITCHING RELUCTANCE MACHINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide reliable and economical sensorless method and apparatus for detecting the position of a switching reluctance driver which can operate on any speed conditions (including zero speed) and load conditions (including temporary disturbance of load), especially over the speed in the vicinity of a transition point between a chopping mode and a single pulse mode. SOLUTION: A polyphase switching reluctance machine is controlled by a control system employing sensorless position detection. A controller is robust and reliable and operates over the entire current chopping rage of the machine. A diagnostic pulse of specified flux coupling is injected into the phase regardless of presence/absence of a residual current flow.
