PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stamper to manufacture various kinds of optical disks and to provide a substrate to manufacture the stamper. SOLUTION: The stamper for the formation of an optical disk and the substrate for the manufacture of the stamper consist of pure Ta or a Ta-based alloy containing <50% Mo and the balance Ta and inevitable impurities, pure Nb or a Nb-based alloy containing <50% Mo and the balance Nb and inevitable impurities, or pure V or a V-based alloy containing <50% Mo and the balance V and inevitable impurities.
