PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanning apparatus capable of easily replacing a filter cutting excited light and reading image with a high S/N ratio according to the wave length to be detected by using a proper filter. SOLUTION: The device comprises a laser exciting light source 1, an image carrier 22, a scanning mechanism for scanning on the image carrier 22 with a laser light 4 emitted from the laser light source 1 and exciting the image carrier 22 by the laser light 4, a filter unit 28 provided with at least one filter member 31, and a photodetector 29 photoelectrically detecting the light emitted from the image carrier 22. The filter member 31 is detachably attached to a filter unit 28. The filter unit 28 is movably constituted between the detection position positioning in the light path of light emitted from the image carrier 22 and a filter replacing position replaceable of the filter member 31. Also a light shielding plate 62 covering the photodetector 29 when the filter unit 28 is positioning on the filter replacing position is provided.
