PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photo-visual tester, capable of conducting a material test while displaying the behavior during the test on a real-time basis. SOLUTION: A slider 3 is moved vertically to compress a sample 10, and the generated stress is detected by a load sensor 8. A transparent sample receiver 6, made of a transparent material is arranged above, and a photographing unit 16 using a CCD image sensor or the like for photographing the image of the sample 10 from below is incorporated in a test base 17 with a photographing function. This photo-visual tester comprises the test base 17, an operation section 19 having an arithmetic controller 20, capable of displaying a load and an image signal on the same screen, and a monitor 13. The stress change and the shape change in the compression test can be evaluated simultaneously on real-time basis.
