PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, in which a uniform and precise gap of a liquid crystal cell can be obtained and the liquid crystal display device having excellent display quality is easily obtained. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device, when a spacer 8 and a liquid crystal 9 are interposed between a pair of substrates 1 and 2 having conducting electrodes 3 and 4 formed on principal surfaces 1a and 2a, respectively, and the substrates are pressurized with pressing force balancing with the stress of the spacer to obtain a prescribed gap, the pressing force is stepwise increased until the pressing force reaches the force balancing with the stress of the spacer.
