PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video processing unit that can reproduce an audio signal at a normal speed while displaying a video image that is fast-forwarded. SOLUTION: A reproduction speed control section 101 instructs a reproduction speed of an audio signal and a reproduction speed of a video signal. A video signal control section 102 generates a video image in response to the reproduction speed on the basis of the video signal read from an audio/video signal recording section 104 and an audio signal control section 103 generates an audio signal in response to the reproduction speed on the basis of the audio signal read from the audio/video signal recording section 104. After an audio/ video signal output time adjustment section 105 corrects the sound quality of the generated audio signal, the audio signal is outputted together with the video signal while adjusting output timing of the audio signal with respect to the video signal.
