PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a threshold matrix resolving the problem of texture and a method and a device for gradation reproduction using this matrix, which improve uniformity of a dot pattern by improving the method of number 2000-59626 in the patent gazette. SOLUTION: Pixels of an original image and elements of the threshold matrix are made to correspond to each other in 1:1, and the density of each pixel of an output image is expressed by a binary or multiple values, and a dot pattern having a size corresponding to the threshold matrix is divided into small sections so that all sections may have the same number of dots and dot patterns in plural sections may be equal to each other with respect to all gradations, and further, the threshold matrix is so generated that the number of dots may be increased with congruity of dot patterns on the boundary of sections where dot patterns are equal to each other. Or the threshold matrix is generated while controlling the order of increase of dots between sections where dot patterns are equal to each other and the other sections.
