PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file managing method which can save the use of a recording medium when pieces of information of a file have their histories managed individually. SOLUTION: When a serer 20 manages a file of CAD data, nodes are classified into three, i.e., a CAD data node 230, an arrangement diagram node 210, and a wiring diagram node 220. A history of registration processing carried out for the arrangement diagram node 210 and wiring drawing node 220 is managed with pieces 212 and 222 of attribute-management-only information managing only a history of attributes so that the file is not managed at the arrangement diagram node 210 and wiring diagram node 220. The entity of the revised file is managed by the CAD data node 230 and its history is managed with history information 232. For entity file reference, the pieces 212 and 222 of attribute-management-only history information have pointers 213 and 223 to the history information 232.
