<p>The procedure includes division into two sub-bands, enabling substantial compression of image signal data. The coding process includes analysis (E1) of the signal into sub-bands of lower and higher frequencies. The second sub-band of higher frequency is divided (E4) into blocks (Bi,n). The blocks are selected according to whether they are to be coded by allocation of a predetermined value, or whether they are to be coded by lattice quantization coding, according to a selection criterion. The second blocks formed by the preceding stage are connected (16) to form a series of blocks. The series of blocks is then coded (E17) by lattice quantization coding using a series of coefficients extracted from the second blocks of the second sub-band.</p> |
