摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate a catalyst at an early stages, at the start-up time of an internal combustion engine with a simple structure, in an exhaust emission control device for the internal combustion engine having an adsorbing material and the catalyst. SOLUTION: In this exhaust emission control device, an exhaust flow passage 3 for allowing a passage of exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine 1 is provided with the adsorbing material 5, while a catalyst 6 is provided on the downstream side of the adsorbing material 5. The exhaust emission control device is provided with a heat exchangers 10-13, capable of exchanging heat between the upstream side of the adsorbing material 5 and the upstream side of the catalyst 6 and the downstream side of the adsorbing material 5, in the exhaust flow passage 3. The heat exchangers 10, 11 may comprise plural counterflow-type heat exchangers 10a-10e through which the exhaust gas oppositely flows, or the heat exchangers 10, 11 can comprises one counterflow-type heat exchanger 11. Each of the heat exchangers 10, 11 is formed with first flow passages 3a on the upstream side and second flow passages 3b on the downstream side through which the exhaust gas oppositely flows, the adsorbing material 5 is disposed between the first flow passages 3a and the second flow passages 3b, and the catalyst 6 is disposed on the downstream side of the second flow passages 3b.
