PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a time shift reproduction method and device capable of performing the control at the time a reproduction catches up with a video recording in a FF(forward fast) reproduction under a time shift reproduction in the state of the reproduction from a file as it is. SOLUTION: This device has a video recording part 103 for converting a video under video recording into data, a storage part 105 for recording the data converted by the video recording part 103 and a reproducing part 104 for performing reproduction by reading out the data from the storage part 105. In the device, the time length and the reproducing position of the data recorded in the storage part 105 are compared for every prescribed time and when the time difference between the time length and the reproducing position becomes smaller than a fixed length, the pausing of the reproduction is performed and the reproduction is resumed after a fixed time.
