PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film scanner capable of appropriately setting a control parameter related to a reading operation without being affected by the error at a reading time. SOLUTION: In this film scanner, a focus position having the highest sharpness is decided as a 1st focusing position (1st focus adjustment position), and a focus position slightly shifted from the 1st focussing point is decided as a 2nd focusing position (2nd focus adjustment position) (step S2410 and S2411). Pre-scanning is performed at the 2nd focussing position being the focus position slightly shifted from the 1st focussing position. Thus, pre-scanned image data are averaged in a gray level direction, and a gamma table is prepared by an arithmetic operation using the image data.
