PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system, that can makes stable communication independently of the relation between a transmission medium and earth grounding and an installation interval between a transmitter and a receiver, by directly detecting the electric field induced in the transmission medium, so as to eliminate a feedback electrode which was required in the conventional systems. SOLUTION: A micro controller MPU 1 in a communication unit TRX 1 generates a signal D1 corresponding to data to be sent to a communication unit TRX 2, modulates this signal D and outputs the modulated signal to a human body HB. The electric filed, given to the human body HB in the communication unit TRX 2, is transmitted to an optoelectronic crystal EO 2 via an electrode ER 2 to change the refractive index of the optoelectronic crystal EO 2. A refractive index detector DT 2 detects a change in the refractive index to acquire a modulation signal D1'. Then the modulation signal D1' acquired by the refractive index detector DT 2 is demodulated, and the demodulated signal is outputted to a micro controller MPU 2.
