Garments and bed clothing, coated with microorganisms of genus Brachybacterium, that can prevent pneumonia, sepsis, myelitis, staphylococcal enteritis, staphylococcal burn-like syndrome and toxic shock syndrome

It has been found that members of the genus Brachybacterium, in particular, strain AAA-a, have anti-microbial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The Brachybacterium species can be immobilised on garments made of cotton, linen or synthetic fibres, and paper. From a garment treated with the Brachybacterium species a care garment or bed clothing can be made. The bacteria are grown in a culture medium and then diluted with saline to about 103 cells/ml. This solution is used to coat cloth or paper to a final concentration of 104 cells/cm2. FIG.3 is a cross-sectional view of a thick bedspread treated with a Brachybacterium species. The bedspread comprises an inner cotton filling 2 with a fabric cover-up 3; in the cotton filling 2, a Brachybacterium species-immobilised sheet 4 is embedded and arranged together with a far infrared light-emitting substance-immobilised sheet 5; and in the cotton filling 2, both of the sheets 4 and 5 elongate in its entirety.
