PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signaling method that does not need a revision of PVC connection data again in the case of revising a connection destination, when interconnecting ATM terminals without an SVC function. SOLUTION: A telephone connected to an ATM switch gives information consisting of an operation class for connection between ATM terminals and of identification information of the ATM terminals or other ATM switch to the ATM switch, the ATM switch retrieves connection information of the ATM terminal or the other ATM switch based on the information and sets a communication path on an ATM communication path. The connection information consists of a connection port number and of a connection number or an address on a connection port of the ATM terminal or the other ATM switch that are stored at an address of a memory of the ATM switch, corresponding to the ID of the ATM terminal.
