PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display is provided to stabilize signals, improve aperture ratio, and reduce the number of masks required for manufacturing the liquid crystal display so as to simplify a fabrication process. CONSTITUTION: A gate line and a source line are formed in matrix form, and a gate electrode(41) is formed in close proximity to the intersection of the gate line and the source line. A semiconductor active layer(43) is formed on the gate electrode, having the first insulating layer(42) between the active layer and the gate electrode. Source and drain electrodes(48,49) are formed on the semiconductor active layer, being distant from each other. Electrodes(53,58) for generating capacitance are formed on the first insulating layer in close proximity to the source line. The second insulating layer(50) is formed on the first insulating layer. A pixel electrode(38) is formed on the second insulating layer and connected to the drain electrode, to form capacitance in cooperation with the electrodes.
