An Independent claim is also included for a process for separating a liquid and a gas from a multiple phase fuel comprising reducing the flow speed of the fuel using an enlargement of the separating unit; deviating the fuel stream using a deviating and/or suction device (19); and retaining the liquid of the fuel using the filter element (13). Preferred Features: The liquid retaining filter element is a wire filter. The separating unit has an inlet funnel (17) tapering in the main flow direction (16); a cylindrical feed channel (18) and a deviating and/or suction device (19).
