<p>Positioning devices (80, 130, 310, 340, 400) for improving the fit, comfort and crash protection provided to users, particularly children, of Type II vehicle seat belt assemblies (48, 148) which include webbing (50, 150) connected to a retraction device (54, 154) and extending at a relatively upper end (52, 152) from a force diverter e.g. a pillar loop (54, 154) and secured to an anchor (58, 158) at a relatively lower end (56, 156), with a latch plate (60, 160) insertable into a buckle (62, 162) and having a slotted opening (74, 174) through which the webbing (50, 150) slides to define a shoulder belt portion (76, 176), and a lap belt portion (78, 178). The devices (80, 130) include a clamping element (82, 140) frictionally engageable with the shoulder belt portion (76, 176) and positionable immediately adjacent the latch plate (60, 160) for maintaining the lap belt portion (78, 178) in a snug condition when the latch plate (60, 160) is inserted into the buckle (62, 162) by preventing the loosening of the lap belt portion while permitting its tightening. Positioning device (130) includes a shoulder belt repositioning element (142) attached to the clamping element (140).</p> |
