The method involves performing a standard measurement in a dwell time with maximum sensitivity, evaluating the resulting signals to determine whether a pixel is saturated or a threshold below saturation is exceeded, performing a second measurement in the dwell time if a pixel is saturated with sensitivity adapted by a predictive estimate and temporarily storing the signal data or second measurement for the next acquisition depending on the result.
