Chipboard production waste water treated by addition of caustic solution and evaporation for separation into concentrated semi-solids and clean water

Following heat treatment of wood with steam, condensed water containing dissolved organic impurities is treated by reduction in pH value to 6.0-9.5 with caustic solution. The water is then filtered and evaporated to leave a residue of poorly evaporating liquid which is separated. Part of the liberated steam is returned for re-use in the process while the remainder is discharged in a treated condition.
