A compression latch (10) having a housing (11), a handle (12) and a pawl member (13), where the pawl is connected to the housing through a living spring (51) for hinged movement by engagement with the handle, and wherein the handle includes a first engaging portion (14) and a second lifting portion (50) where the first engaging portion remains in view when the latch is unlatched and the second lifting becomes functionable after engaging the first engaging portion. The latch also having mounting means (20, 21, 22, 23) which are preferably provided on the housing to facilitate installation of the latch into a panel aperture or cutout, wherein the latch selectively secures a closure panel to a corresponding frame or adjacent panel member.
