PURPOSE: A method for recording and playing a still picture is provided to asynchronously play a still picture picked up by a digital camera and an extra audio data. CONSTITUTION: In the data composed of a still picture and a sound, extra audio data are added. The extra audio data are the audio data recorded by being added to the still picture and audio mixed data. The extra audio data are dispersed when being recorded physically. The position of the data region where the still picture data are mixed with the audio data and the extra audio data are indicated. The position information is stored in a memory, and is used during playback. A microcomputer checks a playback mode of a player. If the player is in an automatic playback mode, the still picture is played depending on the playback length of the audio data. Then, the mixed data of still picture data and audio data 1, the mixed data of the still picture data and audio data 2, and the mixed data of still picture data and audio data 3 are played sequentially.
