A novel circuit (Figure 1A) is disclosed for compensating for ASE in the gai n control mode of an optical amplifier (10). The circuit (figure 1A) includes a gain medium (20), a pump source (22), an input port (24), an output port (26 ), two optical taps (28 and 30), a first detector (32), and a second detector (34). Fifure 1B further discloses a novel method for deriving a control sign al from output of the two optical detectors. |
