RAPID-ONSET FORMULATION OF A SELECTIVE CYCLOOXIGENASE-2

An orally deliverable pharmaceutical composition is provided comprising a selective cyclooxigenase-2 inhibitory drugs of low water solubility, for example celecoxib, and a glycol ether, for example diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. At least a substantial part of the drug is in dissolved or solubilized form in a solvent liquid comprising the glycol ether. The composition has rapid-onset properties and is useful in treatment of cyclooxygenase-2 mediated conditions and disorders, particularly pain. For relief of pain in headache or migraine, the composition can optionally be administered together with a vasodilator.
