Phosphor lamp (10) comprises a light-permeable glass tube (1) and a base (4) with an electrode (3) arranged at each end of the glass tube. The glass tube has a softening temperature of approximately 685 deg C or less and contains 1-11 wt.% Na2O, 1-10 wt.% K2O, 0-3 wt.% Li2O, 0.1-0.5 Sb2O3 and no lead. The total amount of Na2O, K2O and Li2O is 5-20 wt.%. Preferred Features: The glass tube is circular. The lamp current density which is the ratio of the lamp current to the cross-sectional surface of the glass tube is approximately 200 mA/cm<2>.
