The communication between the unit and the data processing system is limited to the transmission of a password input from a keyboard (12). The standard interface is preferably a keyboard interface. The fingerprint sensor (4) picks up a print with camera, sensor, by scanning or thermal imaging for further processing in a recognition system. A processing unit, (6) consisting of the processor and image processing software, processes the sensed print image by digital processing and checking systematically for characteristics to be compared with information in memory. The processor and image processing software are arranged so an alphanumeric pass word is automatically produced. The password is stored with the recognised fingerprint. An interface manager (8) co-ordinates the transmission of signals from the fingerprint sensor, processor and image processing software and signals of a conventional keyboard. The sensor, processor and image processing unit are in one unit (2). The unit and keyboard are connected to the interface manager, which has a standard interface (10). - |
