<p>A needle protection device (2) for a vial (16) or capsule having a housing (6) hingedly connected to a needle collar (4). The collar (4) fits about a portion of the vial body (16a) and has an extension that fits about the neck (22) of the vial (16). A needle hub (20) having a skirt portion (20a) is capable of capping or overlapping the collar (4) to non-removably secure the collar (4) to the vial (16). An applicator (30) can be used to move the skirt (20a) and collar (4) so that the collar extension (4b) is capped by the skirt (20a) and securely coupled to the vial (16). A rod (48) moveable along the applicator (30) is mated with a plunger (24). The housing (6) is pivotable to the vial (16) to envelop the needle (26) extending from the hub (20).</p> |
