The aim of the invention is to protect road-users such as pedestrians, cyclists, etc, who are not protected by an encompassing chassis, or for small vehicles of relatively low mass. Said aim is achieved by means of a composite piece for motor vehicles, in particular, suitable for use in potential collision zones and comprising two different components linked to each other. The composite piece is characterised in that the components (2, 3) are linked to each other by means of an interference fit, to give a light and stiff piece (1) and that at least one actuator is provided (4, 5, 6), which may be controlled by means of a pre-crash and/or early-crash signal, whereby the interference link between the components (2, 3) is partly, or completely broken and the stiffness of the piece (1) can be reduced. In a further embodiment of the invention, the actuators may be reversibly controlled and the partly released interference fit links, may be returned to the original state by means of the elastic returning forces of the participating materials.
