The I-beam comprises a web(1) with a flange(2,3) extending at right angles to it at each end. Each flange consists of a one, three or five layer wooden fiber board with a number of strands overlapped by adjacent strands at one point at least. The course of the apparent density profile runs through the thickness of the flanges in parabola form, whereby the least density is in the middle of the flange. The strands of the fiber board are orientated at angles of between 0 and 60 degrees in relation to each other.
