Apparatus for roasting foods, e.g. nuts or pumpkin seeds, comprises a roasting vessel (4,5) which can be held in a frame and swivelled about a horizontal axis, and filling members for the food and for salt. A motor driven mixing unit (10) for mixing the food, locates into the container. After roasting, the container contents are emptied into a sieve where the salt is sieved out.
