The cable feed monitoring device uses at least one sensor (20,21), e.g. a capacitive sensor, attached to the stationary frame (2) supporting the rotatable cable drum (10), for providing a sensor signal indicating the presence or absence of a cable on the cable drum. An Independent claim for a cable drum cable feed monitoring method is also included.
