The invention relates to a multi-component container for piece goods, in particular, for use in a baggage transport system. Said container comprises an upper section, for retaining the piece of baggage and a lower section, connected to the upper section, for reinforcing the base surface and the bordering side surfaces of the upper section, whereby the containers with the baggage items may be introduced into a sorting transporter within the transport system. Furthermore, the container upper section is detachably connected to the container lower section by means of locking elements, which may be activated by operating elements provided in the transport system.
