An aqueous composition (I) for application to a substrate (II), preferably having non-absorbent, non-porous surfaces comprises: (A) a sol containing solid particles having an average hydrodynamic diameter of less than 200 nm, (B) at least one non-volatile solvent having a b. pt. greater than 200 deg C, (C) at least one water-soluble polymer that is compatible with the sol and (D) water Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the application of the composition (I) onto the substrate (II) by ink jet technology, optionally drying, followed by sintering by means of a laser; and (ii) the resulting coated structure.
