The rear axle for motor vehicles has a steering lever(4) with its pivot point(3) extending horizontally in the direction of travel. A hydraulic actuator(9) acts upon the lever and its longitudinal axis(16) runs in a vertical transverse plane. The actuator and steering lever lie approximately in the same transverse plane. The actuator has a longitudinally movable piston(10) installed in a working cylinder(13) and operating the steering lever.
