PURPOSE: A portable terminal having a card settlement function and an operating method thereof are provided to freely perform a communication function and a traffic use function using only portable terminal by embedding a magnetic film of a traffic card or a credit card and by performing a card settlement function. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal(100) has a magnetic film(80) in the center of a folding unit(70) for performing a card settlement function. A portable terminal having a designated standard is designated to a company for manufacturing a current traffic card magnetic film, and the magnetic film(80) suitable for various cellular phones is manufactured. A user uses the portable terminal(100) for performing a communication function and a pass card function.
