Magnetic stripe cards containing internet address, account or password details are used in combination with a special card reader to permit secure communication over the internet. Trojan or keystroke monitoring surveillance methods are thwarted because there is no need to enter passwords or account details by keyboard. Standard common URL portions such as "http:// www" or ".com" are encoded by shorthand sequences. Card data is decoded by the reader then encrypted for transmission, with a security level indicated by the card. The data may be hidden in a multimedia file using steganography. URLs may be attached to radio or TV broadcasts.
