New quaternary ammonium derivatives and process for their preparation

The invention comprises salts of quaternary compounds which in the form of the tree acids correspond to the formula: wherein R represents a C11-17 unsaturated linear aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, a mixture of such residues or a mixture of such residues with saturated residues, R1 and R2 each represent a methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl group, X represents a halogen atom and m=1 or 2. The above compounds are prepared by quaternating amino amides of the formula:- with a halogeno-acetic acid and converting the free acids to salts by treatment e.g. with triethanolamine or a further quantity of R is preferably H3C-(CH2)7-CH=CH-(CH2)7-derived from oleic acid.
