The compartmented receptacle comprises a cylindrical body (12) supported on a rotatable base (9) which in turn is supported on a lower base (8). In this lower base (8) a springloaded (11) pedal (12) is mounted which acts upon a vertical rod (1) located in the center of the cylindrical body (12). The upper part of this vertical rod (1) comprises an elongated opening in which a tongue-like portion of a triangular shaped lid (4) is located. The lid (4) is hinged to a cover (6) which is mounted on top of the vertical rod (1). When the pedal (12) is actuated in a downwards direction, the downward movement of the upper part of the vertical rod (1) causes the lid (4) to pivot about its hinge from a closed to an open position. <IMAGE>
