PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a ringer tone in a portable phone are provided to install an alarm control sensor and a contact protrusion between the front side and cover of a portable phone so that a user can rapidly interrupt a generated alarm as he simply puts a suitable pressure on the portable phone. CONSTITUTION: If a signal is transmitted to an alarm control sensor as an alarm is operated, a CPU initializes the operation of the sensor. In case that the sensor is an operating state, the CPU enters to a detection stand-by state. If sensor input is detected, the CPU stops the alarm. Then the CPU judges whether the contact time between the alarm control sensor and a contact protrusion is within a preset time. In case that the contact time is within the preset time, the CPU transfers to a light-emitting mode. However, if the contact time exceeds the preset time, the CPU transfers itself into an origination-only mode and transmits a calling/voice recording guide message.
