Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention provide the ability for processing the content of a communication (such as an email message) using one or more content servers within a network. The content is received from a first network node as being a referenced part of the communication sent to an intended recipient. Typically, the content is received in a formatted stream of data that is then positioned on the content server closest to an anticipated access point for the communication. Identifying the anticipated access point for the message depends upon factors such as a profile of previous accessing activities for the recipient of the communication, a transmission history associated with the sender and characteristics of the communication itself (e.g., a language characteristic). After initially storing the content, the position of the content can be updated or optimized by identifying an updated anticipated access point and transferring the content to the appropriate content server based upon its proximity to the updated anticipated access point. Once a request is received for the content, the location of the content is determined and the content is sent out, usually in a streaming format. |
