The invention provides enhanced transportation and/or storage vessels for liquids and solid materials in liquids, particularly solid radioactive materials in liquids and radioactive liquids, which may give rise to hazardous vapour or gas formation. In particular the invention provides a vessel (12, 206, 404, 504), wherein the vessel defines an internal volume which may be sealed off relative to the outside of the vessel, the internal volume contains a second internal volume defined by a container (20, 200, 400, 500), the internal volume of the container is variable and sealed off relative to the internal volume of the vessel. As the internal volume of the container is sealed off relative to the rest of the vessel, no gas or vapour can build up in it. Furthermore, the variable volume of the container may be used for maintaining sufficient pressure in the vessel in order to avoid gas and/or vapour formation in the latter. |
