Apparatus for generating a wavelength division multiplexed optical signal for fiber-optic systems comprises an input optical coupling device for receiving an incident broadband optical signal, a wavelength separation device for spatially separating the incident optical signal into a two-dimensional array of discrete wavelength components, an array of optical modulators for modulating the discrete wavelength components, wherein each individual modulator generates a discrete optically modulated wavelength component, an output optical coupling device for coupling the optically modulated two-dimensional array of discrete wavelength components to an optical waveguide. |
