PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a printing accuracy of a rotary stencil printer having a printing drum 10 including a crossbar 18 for mounting a stencil paper starting end extended along one of generating lines of a cylindrical outer peripheral surface and protruding radially outward from a cylinder contour and a backing roller 12 including a lateral groove 36 extended along one of the generating lines of the cylindrical outer peripheral surface and radially inward recessed from the contour to receive the crossbar. SOLUTION: A central axis of the printing drum 10 or the backing roller 12 is moved between a position of print executing time for sandwiching a printing sheet 48 between the drum and the roller to jostle the sheet 48 and a separating position at non-printing time instead of switching a printing time and a non-printing time due to flexibly extruding to deviate to radial outward of the outer peripheral wall of the drum. In this case, the moving distance is set to a trace distance larger than a thickness of the sheet but smaller than a radially protruding distance of the crossbar 18.
