PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder in which the size of a power supply can be reduced or the recording speed can be increased by driving a recording head with a low voltage or at a high speed and a high quality blur-free printing of an output image can be sustained. SOLUTION: Charges are supplied previously to an ink meniscus by applying a charge supply pulse 31 between all recording electrodes 15 and a counter electrode 11 immediately before a recording pulse is applied to the recording electrode 15 thereby providing an uniform potential difference between both electrodes. Since a Coulomb force sufficient for attracting and flying an ink dot is obtained, energy being applied at the time of driving can be set at a low level and since charges can be held on the ink face under any situation, an ink dot can be flied stably with no variation.
