PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for recording and playing caption data and audio data are provided to improve efficiency of study by recording and playing caption data and audio data. CONSTITUTION: A caption decoder(13) decodes closed caption data extracted from an input video signal(12). An A/D converter(15) converts input audio data to digital data. An input buffer(16) delays the audio data. A memory(18) stores the decoded caption data and the decoded audio data. A video controller(19) controls the caption data displayed on a screen of a monitor(20). The monitor(20) displays the caption data. An output buffer(21) stores the audio data transmitted from the memory(18). A D/A converter(22) converts the audio data to an analog audio signal. The analog audio signal is changed to a sound by a speaker(23). The decoded caption data and the audio data are stored in the memory(18). Memory addresses of the audio data and the caption data are displayed when a signal is received from the caption decoder(13). The caption data are transmitted from the memory(18) to the video controller(19). The audio data are transmitted from the memory(18) to the output buffer(21). A command input device(10) transmits commands to the microcomputer(11).
