PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink which enables a high quality printing and extends the life of a recording head by reducing the attachment of scorched deposits onto the surface of a heater which applies heat energy to the ink inside the recording head to discharge the ink from the recording head, a process for reducing the attachment of scorched deposits, a process and a device for ink-jet recording and a process for extending the life of a recording head. SOLUTION: The ink contains (a) a coloring material, (b) a liquid medium and (c) a compound chosen from diglycolic acid and salts thereof. In the process for reducing the attachment of scorched deposits to the recording head heater, the process and device for ink-jet recording and the process for extending the life of a recording head, this ink is used.
