PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject benzylamine from the corresponding benzonitrile having trifluoromethyl group. SOLUTION: This benzylamine is obtained by hydrogenating the corresponding benzonitrile compound having trifluorometyl group with hydrogen in an organic solvent in the presence of a platinum group element catalyst and ammonia.
